ENVY interview with Troy Duffy and Norman Reedus

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Back in 1999, first time director Troy Duffy brought the world Boondock Saints, a little movie about Irish-American fraternal twins who take it upon themselves to rid Boston of evil mafia gang members, all the while being pursued by the FBI. The film, which was an underground success through word-of-mouth, became an almost instant cult classic. Now, 10 years after the original release of the film, Boondock Saints gets its long awaited sequel. Even though Duffy has only directed two films, Boondock Saints and Boondock Saints II, both are two of the most cinematically perfect action films of its time.

ENVY had a chance to sit down with Duffy and Norman Reedus, who plays fraternal twin Murphy McManus, to talk about the film, the soundtrack and its die-hard fans… READ MORE

The Irish Rican Takes On BOONDOCK SAINTS 2!!

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Ryan ‘Irish Rican’ McLelland here -

I found BOONDOCK SAINTS a couple years after it had hit on video. When I was serving in the military the pilots who flew at night used to watch it incessantly before going off to fly in the helicopters and for some reason I always would walk in during Willam Dafoe’s drag scene. This scene never made me want to actually sit down and watch the film. But something stuck with the pilots and the film, even calling themselves ‘The Bastardos’ after a throwaway line in the movie. One night they forced me to sit down and watch it and I was instantly hooked. Since then I’ve watched the movie once a month for the next six years.

There seems to be two very different camps for BOONDOCK SAINTS: the ones who… READ MORE

Back Into Boondock with Boondock Saints II Brother Norman Reedus

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

norman_reedus_boondock_2After climbing the cinematic ranks in such films as Mimic, Six Ways to Sunday, and 8MM before landing the role of gun-toting, butt-kicking Irish brother Murphy McManus in Boondock Saints, actor Norman Reedus added thirty-four more film credits to his resume in the decade leading up to the long awaited sequel, Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. Although Norman Reedus kept himself busy in such films as Blade II, The Notorious Bette Page, American gangster, and the recently released Pandorum, Reedus gained a huge loyal fan base due to his explosive role in Boondock Saints next to co-star Sean Patrick Flanery.

Now, after a decade hiatus from the hail of gunfire justice of the Boondock world, Norman Reedus is Boondock locked, loaded, and ready to roll for the October 30 release of Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, which sees Reedus step back into the Boondock shoes of Murphy McManus for a re-team with Sean Patrick Flanery as Connor McManus plus returning Boondock actor Billy Connolly and new Boondock II cast additions of Peter Fonda, Judd Nelson, Clifton Collins Jr., and Julie Benz… READ MORE

Working With the Masters of Horror: Norman Reedus

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Source: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor

reedus-int1Norman Reedus made his feature film debut with Mimic. Not a bad way to start – working with Guillermo Del Toro, arguably one of the finest creative forces in film today. The actor would be called back by Del Toro years later for Blade II, this time as Scud, the Daywalker’s new tech assistant (after the brief demise of Kris Kristofferson’s “Whistler”). Del Toro isn’t the only director to use Reedus twice.

Christian Alvart called him up when production on Pandorum (open in theaters now) was about to begin. The pair had previously collaborated on the serial killer thriller Antibodies. And, of course, there’s Troy Duffy, who made Reedus one of the Boondock Saints. A sequel – subtitled “All Saints Day” – is getting… READ MORE

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

2009-09-19-boondock_saints-150x150Geeks of Doom has had the honor of interviewing some of the great cast members of Troy Duffy’s desperately-anticipated sequel, Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. First up was the wonderful Clifton Collins Jr., who’s new to the gang in the sequel. And now, I’m pleased to present our own little chat with the best two good guy killers ever seen in a movie — the Boondock Saints: Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus!

Whether you’re a super-fan of the original 1999 cult classic The Boondock Saints or not, you’ve very likely seen both of these gentleman in numerous other movies and TV shows. Sean has appeared in movies like Powder and Suicide Kings, and he even rocked the fedora and whip as Indiana Jones in Young Indiana Jones. Norman will soon be seen in Pandorum, and is also known from his roles in movies like Deuces Wild, Blade II, and Ridley Scott’s American Gangster with Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington… READ MORE

Cinema Blend Interview: Boondock Saints II’s – Norman Reedus

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

norman-14778After chatting with Sean Patrick Flanery last week it was obvious that there was something special about Boondock Saints. I’m not referring to the fact that the film, which barely got a run in the theaters, managed to grow into a sensational cult classic; rather that the success of the film had a profound effect on the actors that made us love it. Norma Reedus emphasized his gratitude for Troy Duffy casting him as Murphy McManus in the 1999 hit, but it’s moviegoers that should be thankful for it let a talented actor share his craft with the world.

Norman may have held back when it came to divulging juicy Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day plot details and informed me that’s he’s never seen Titanic (gasp), but he’s still got a lot to say about the vast number of projects he’s so passionate about. It’s been ten years since we’ve seen Reedus as Murphy McManus and he’s … READ MORE
