We get a new, human character on this week’s The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. The younger brother of racist Merle (Michael Rooker), who we last saw trapped on a roof top, handcuffed to a pipe. Daryl is played by Norman Reedus, whose previous credits include The Boondock Saints and its sequel, and The Messengers 2. In our exclusive interview, we talk to Norman about playing a redneck douchebag, working with zombies, and what is on the horizon for the recently-announced second season of The Walking Dead.
Tell me about your character, Daryl Dixon.
He is one half of the bad-ass Dixons. If you grew up with Merle as your big brother, you probably … READ MORE

Saturday, November 13th, 2010Movie Mike’s Interview with Norman Reedus about The Walking Dead
Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010
Norman Reedus is known most for his role of Murphy MacManus in “The Boondock Saints” series. He is currently appearing in AMC’s new TV series “The Walking Dead”, playing the role of Daryl Dixon. The character as described by Norman is “a guy who is ready to break down and kill everyone at any moment”. Movie Mikes had the chance again to talk with Norman about his role in the show and how it differs from his other projects.
Mike Gencarelli: Tell us about your role of Daryl Dixon in “The Walking Dead”?
Norman Reedus: Daryl is an ex-con that lives alone with his brother. When the apocalypse happens, he fends for himself. He is a hunter. He hunts with a crossbow. He is quite the hot head. He is also efficient in his killing. He is a no-bullshit kind of a kind. My character comes in on the… READ MORE
“Real Dark, Real Heavy”: An Interview With Norman Reedus
Monday, July 5th, 2010Back in the Spring, Norman and I chatted about the Boondock Saints films for an article published over at Pulp Tone, with insights into the cult phenomenon from both Norman and Sean Patrick Flanery as well as their fans. Alas, not everything Norman had to say could make it into the article, so I asked him at the time if I could post the rest of our conversation on my blog. Having abandoned said blog for a while as I wrestled with my MA thesis, I’ve still been holding onto this interview and desperately wanting to share it. With the graaaand opening of Hopeful Monster, it was simply meant to be!
Talking to Norman was such a delight; he’s this completely, effortlessly engaging guy. Interviewing Sean before I talked to Norman had served as an interesting transition – Sean all charming and boisterous, Norman more laidback and soft-spoken. He’s got this coffee-and-cigarettes kind of voice that had me instantly at ease…and okay, a little weak in the knees. Besides being an incredibly talented actor, film maker, and artist, I found Norman at once inviting and opinionated in his remarks, with an obvious affection for his fans, appreciation for his opportunities, and a love and respect for his craft.
Read on for Norman’s thoughts on… READ MORE

The Saints Return…With a Vengeance – An Interview with Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flanery, and Their Fans
Thursday, April 22nd, 2010Ten years ago, director Troy Duffy went from just another LA bartender to Hollywood’s next big thing to sleeping one off on someone else’s floor. His script for The Boondock Saints was hot, attracting the backing of the Weinsteins with names like Ewan McGregor and Stephen Dorff up for parts. Then, depending on who you hear the story from (former friends, emphasis on the “former”, chronicle their take in the 2003 documentary Overnight), Duffy pissed a lot of people off and Columbine happened; nobody wanted anything to do with his stylized and glorified vigilante movie anymore. It was probably a bit of both. Still, Duffy kept at it, managing a practically-straight-to-video release from Franchise Pictures (excepting a brief five screen release rumored to be paid out of his own pocket).
Critics panned it across the board… READ MORE
ItsJustMovies: An Exclusive Interview With Norman Reedus
Friday, April 9th, 2010
Back in 1999, when “Boondock Saints” came and went (after appearing in a handful of theaters), the odds of ever seeing a sequel to the movie were incalculably low. And, as time went by, the odds grew even longer.
But “Boondock Saints” is not your average movie — and “Boondock Saints” fans are far from your average fans. Director Troy Duffy had a vision to get a sequel made … and in 2009, that movie blazed its way inter theaters.
The two “Saints” — played by Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus — were completely on board with reprising the roles of Conner and Murphy McManus, even if it seemed (at times) like it might never happen.
Reedus said he never gave up faith in the sequel — but still was a bit shocked when they… READ MORE

6-Year-Old Mingus Reedus Hits the Playground
Sunday, January 17th, 2010When it comes to New York’s elitist crowds—be they film or fashion—access is everything. Having favorable genetics doesn’t hurt either. Mingus Lucien Reedus happens to be blessed with both, but he really couldn’t care less.
The son of actor/filmmaker Norman Reedus (“Boondock Saints”) and Danish model/photographer Helena Christensen, Reedus is no stranger to the high-fashion and Hollywood scenes; he attended his first fashion show with his mother at the age of 3. Yet, now six years old and highly individual, he much prefers reptiles to any runway or red carpet.
Despite his disregard for fashion, Reedus (who’s named after “that music player Mingus”) was more than happy to break from his usual after-school activities… READ MORE
